Long Island Lutheran star Kiyan Anthony, son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, has missed all but one of his team's games this season due to injury. During LuHi's season opener against St. Joseph's on Nov. 30, Anthony suffered an injury during a dunk after he tried to avoid an opponent who was trying to block him.
The guard landed hard on his back and was seen hobbling after the fall. The incident was ruled an accident, and the injury was deemed not serious. However, Kiyan still needed time to recover and missed a month's worth of games.
As news of Kiyan Anthony's return to playing broke on Thursday, Bryce James, son of LeBron James, dropped his reaction via his Instagram Stories.
"Right to it," James wrote in the caption.
Kiyan Anthony's highly anticipated return is scheduled for Friday, against Veritas Academy. He was seen working out and practicing his shots during the holiday break, with his mom, actress La La Anthony, teasing his imminent return on social media.
Bryce James also missed the early part of the season for Sierra Canyon, including a showdown with Anthony's Long Island Lutheran. The two NBA sons were present during the game, even though they did not play. Despite missing its star player, Long Island Lutheran won 65-50.
LuHi's struggles to win with Kiyan Anthony sidelined
Long Island Lutheran is now 7-6 after Kiyan Anthony's injury. The team has struggled during some big matchups and has even been on two losing streaks.
Two games after Anthony's injury, the team lost to Brewster Academy National, 67-50, on Dec. 6, and then to reigning national champions Montverde Academy the very next day, 65-59. They bounced back against Bryce James' Sierra Canyon on Dec. 13 but lost two days later to Chris Cenac Jr. and Link Academy, 66-42.
The next day, the Crusaders lost again, this time to Sunrise Christian Academy, 44-43, and then to Owasso on Dec. 18, 64-60.
However, the team has been on a winning streak as of late, led by the Mingo Brothers during that stretch, with four-ster Penn State commit Kayden Mingo, and five-star 2026 prospect Dylan Mingo, taking over games. This includes that stunning 77-66 win over the Boozer Twins and Columbus on Dec. 28.
