No. 1 ranked 2025 prospect AJ Dybantsa is helping elevate Utah sports as he plays for Utah Prep and has signed for Utah-based BYU. Thanks to his achievements, he was even honored by the state's attorney general. Dybantsa paid a visit to the office of Utah State Attorney General Sean D. Reyes in Salt Lake City on Thursday to receive the Warrior Award.
"Thank you Utah!! Blessed," wrote AJ Dybantsa in the caption.
His father, Ace Dybantsa, was also present at the awarding ceremony, with Utah Attorney General Reyes giving his star badge to the five-star small forward. They then posed for photos, with the video of the awarding ceremony at the Utah State Capitol being shared by Utah Prep's Instagram page.
Last season, AJ Dybantsa played for Prolific Prep in Napa, California. This season, he reclassified from the Class of 2026 to the Class of 2025 and transferred to Utah Prep in Hurricane, Utah. He has teamed up with four-star Hawaiian point guard JJ Mandaquit, with the Utah Prep Athletes being considered contenders for a state title and even challengers for this year's Chipotle national championship.
AJ Dybantsa and Utah Prep return to National Top 10 Rankings
After some hiccups early in December, including a two-game losing streak to Dream City Christian National and AJ Dybantsa's former school, Prolific Prep, Utah Prep is back on its winning ways. They are now on a five-game winning streak, capped off by a win over powerhouse Oak Hill Academy on Dec. 21 in Hawaii.
The 13-3 Athletes have made their return to the MaxPreps National Top 10 after being left out of it the week before. Its wins against nationally ranked teams Oak Hill Academy (No. 9) and Brewster Academy (No. 3) were named the reasons why it made it back to the National Top 10. Utah Prep was named the No. 7 team during the week of Jan. 2.
IMG Academy was ranked No. 1 this week, with Link Academy being ranked at No. 2. The Boozer Twins' Columbus is nowhere to be seen in this week's rankings though, as the Florida-based school lost back-to-back games at the Jordan Holiday Classic, losing to Long Island Lutheran and then Link Academy.
As for Utah Prep, it will travel to Phoenix, Arizona for Hoophall West to take on Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy on Saturday.
