The No. 3-ranked Kansas Jayhawks commit Darryn Peterson showed exactly why he is an elite five-star player during the Holiday Hoops Classic in Hopkinsville, Kentucky last Saturday. He dropped 20 points, eight assists and seven rebounds against Iowa United in an 82-56 win.
As expected, his performance has gotten people talking, including a few Kansas Jayhawks fans who want him to play for their favorite college team as soon as possible.
"Can we get him to Kansas in January," said one Kansas Jauhawks fan.
"Seeing Dp becoming more of a true Point is crazy !!!!!!🙌," another commenter noted.
"this his team now 😂," another commenter added.
As expected, there were also several comparisons to former and current NBA players. One commenter, though, said that Peterson's teammates do not get as much recognition as he does.
"He plays like Joe Johnson mixed with Brandon Roy," one person claimed.
"The rest of that team don’t get no recognition at all😂," another commenter opined.
"This give me AE vibes idk," said one commenter.
Despite one of the comments, 'The Grind Session,' which organized the Holiday Hoops Classic event, did not name Darryn Peterson as the player of the game. That honor went to his teammate, four-star Michigan commit Winters Grady.
As for Peterson himself, the five-star point guard signed with Kansas last Nov. 13. At 6-foot-5, he is considered large for his position but he has shown that he could dominate the defenders who usually guard him because of this. However, he is very versatile as he could take on the role of either a playmaker or a prolific scorer.
