Kiyan Anthony continued his strong preseason prior to his senior year. The son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony led the Long Island Lutheran Crusaders to victory against the Putnam Science Mustangs during the third annual ACES Hustle & Heart Classic on Saturday in Queens, New York. The four-star prospect exploded with 26 points and won co-MVP honors alongside teammate Kayden Mingo, and he had just one word to react to the honor, "yea."
Anthony also tagged Mingo in the Instagram story, and he posed with several executives from ACES, the group that organized the event. He was also handed an ACES necklace by founder Brian Kortovich for being named co-MVP.
The Crusaders defeated the Mustangs, but it was not an easy win as it came down to the last shot, with the Mustangs missing the game-winner and Long Island Lutheran holding on, 85-83. Miami commit Ben Ahmed, a 4-star center from the Class of 2025, led Putnam Science and dominated the paint, but his efforts were not enough to seal the victory after Kiyan Anthony's solid game.
During the game, Anthony showed that he can not only drive and draw defenders in, but he can also shoot from behind the three-point line. He can also shoot from midrange and punish defenders with some floaters.
Carmelo Anthony compares son Kiyan Anthony's game to several NBA players
Meanwhile, Kiyan's father, Carmelo, was also present at the game in New York City and was also seen mingling with other VIPs. However, while his son is considered one of the top players from his class, the former NBA star admitted that Kiyan does not really take after his game.
During an interview with Overtime, the former New York Knick said that Kiyan plays more like Paul George, Tyrese Haliburton and Penny Hardaway. He elaborated that his jump shot is more Penny Hardaway and explained that his son is emulating the style of Paul George.
Melo also acknowledged that the players he mentioned all have a high basketball IQ and he could see that in his son as well.
The elder Anthony may soon have some commonality with his son, as Kiyan might commit to Syracuse. The Orange are the favorites to receive the younger Anthony's commitment, with the other two schools in his final three being USC and Auburn.
