One of the greatest football coaches of all time and current UNC target, Bill Belichick, has been out of work for almost a year now. He and the New England Patriots ended their 24-year association in January and since then, the 72-year-old former head coach has been exploring different options, including working in the media.

Rumors are floating around about him joining the University of North as their head coach. The Tar Heels interviewed the legendary head coach this week, as reported by Inside Carolina.

CFB Insider Barrett Sallee shared his thoughts on the former Patriots' head coach's potential return back to coaching at UNC.

"Not gonna lie … the thought of Bill Belichick recruiting high school players, dealing with the transfer portal and developing an NIL program makes me laugh," Sallee tweeted on Dec. 6.

Belichick has never coached at the college level. If he gets the UNC job, he will have to deal with the transfer portal, high school recruitments and the NIL deals.

UNC fired its previous head coach, Mack Brown, on Nov. 26 and since then it has been linked to coaches such as Jon Sumrall and Glenn Schumann.

UNC has landed nine commitments from the Class of 2025

The North Carolina Tar Heels had a poor recruiting cycle this year. They managed to land only nine commitments from the Class of 2025 and have signed seven athletes in the early signing period.

UNC failed to land any five-star prospect from the class and the program's only four-star recruit, Bryce Baker, hasn't signed the letter of intent yet. Among the seven signees, the highest-rated athlete is three-star safety from Gray, Georgia, Javion Butts.

Butts announced his commitment to the Tar Heels on April 7. He chose the North Carolina-based program over other top schools such as Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Texas A&M and Tennessee. The Tar Heels always had the best odds of landing the three-star safety, as per On3.

The 6-foot-1 defenseman is ranked No. 622 nationally and is the 52nd-best safety in the Class of 2025, as per On3. He is also the 78th-best overall prospect from the state of Georgia.
