Chris Paul Jr., the son of NBA star Chris Paul Sr., shared a heartfelt message on Instagram to honor the memory of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi on the anniversary of their tragic passing. Posting a throwback image of himself with his father alongside the late Lakers legend and his daughter on his Instagram story on Sunday, Chris Paul Jr. wrote:
"Miss y'all today ♥️🕊️."
The basketball world paused to remember Kobe and Gigi on January 26, a date that marks the devastating helicopter crash in 2020 that claimed their lives along with seven others. Kobe Bryant, known for his legendary career, was a five-time NBA champion, an 18-time All-Star, and the 2008 NBA MVP. His Mamba Mentality, a philosophy of relentless hard work and competitive spirit, inspired millions worldwide, including Chris Paul Sr.
The Los Angeles Lakers also paid tribute on social media, sharing an emotional post featuring Kobe and Gigi with the caption:
"Always in our heart."
Chris Paul Sr., famously known as "The Point God," had the privilege of teaming up with Kobe in international competition and a few All-Star games. Together, they won gold medals for Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. Kobe admired Chris Paul's skills as well. Reflecting on the infamous 2011 vetoed trade deal that would have united them as teammates on the Lakers, Kobe once said:
“Things would’ve been very, very, very different around here, with two of the most competitive people the league has ever seen.”
Chris Paul Sr. Shares Advice For His Son Chris Paul Jr.
Like his father, Chris Paul Sr., Chris Paul Jr. is learning to succeed in basketball without the advantage of height. The NBA veteran, otherwise known as CP3, stands at just 6 feet tall - well below the NBA average of 6-foot-5. Despite this, he has carved out a legendary career as one of the greatest point guards in NBA history.
He offered a valuable piece of advice to his son, Chris Paul Jr., in an Instagram video back in December, who is of similar stature (5-foot-11) as his father:
"My son is small, right? He's small just like I was," Chris Paul said in the video.
"I've talked to him about the training and how hard it is and this and that, and the third. But he's finally starting to see a little bit of change, right, in his game or whatever, in his ability, and all I keep telling him is just keep stacking days, just keep stacking days.”
Chris Paul Jr., a ninth grader at Campbell Hall, plays for the Vikings and is part of the Class of 2028. While still early in his journey, he embodies the determination and work ethic his father and Kobe embodied so well.
