Five-star quarterback Keelon Russell flipped his commitment to Alabama from SMU on June 4. The college football witnessed crazy flips in the last few weeks, including Bryce Underwood's and Julian Lewis', but Russell didn’t attempt to change his pledge for a second time.
Instead, he's trying to recruit more prospects for Alabama's 2025 class ahead of the early signing period on Dec. 4. On Wednesday, 247Sports National Analysts Tom Loy and Blair Angulo predicted four-star wide receiver Derek Meadows to flip from LSU to Kalen DeBoer's program.
Russell retweeted the post, urging Meadows to join him in Alabama, writing:
"Cmon Home."
Meadows committed to LSU in July over Michigan, Alabama and Notre Dame, among others. When Michigan flipped former LSU commitment Bryce Underwood earlier this month, the Wolverines were seen as the potential program to flip Meadows from the Tigers.
Meadows' father also spoke with On3 in July about Michigan's edge in Meadows' recruitment due to being his in-state program.
“Home state for me and my wife. We’ve always been Michigan fans growing up. You’re going to be a Michigan fan or Michigan State fan growing up. We were Michigan fans."
On3's Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction last week for Sherrone Moore's program to win out for Meadows and secure his commitment. However, his recruitment momentum changed this week, with the latest prediction going in favor of Alabama.
However, don't think that LSU will stay quiet seeing its prospect losing out of hand. The Tigers are working to get Meadows on campus this weekend for their final game of the regular season against Oklahoma, and Alabama is working to do the same in the Iron Bowl against Auburn this weekend.
So the clash of the programs for Meadows commitment will be an interesting discussion ahead of the early signing period.
What would Derek Meadows' potential commitment mean for Alabama?
Alabama lost five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham to Ole Miss two weeks ago. It was a big blow, as he's the No. 2 receiver in the 2025 class, the top recruit in Mississippi and the No. 21 overall prospect in the nation, according to ESPN.
However, Derek Meadows will be able to fill up the gap perfectly. The Las Vegas, Nevada standout is a jumbo receiver and showed his talent on the 7v7 circuit with "his length, jump ball skills and ability to catch the ball through contact."
Meadows is the No. 7 wide receiver in the 2025 cycle, the No. 46 prospect in the nation and the No. 1 recruit in Nevada, per 247Sports. He was the Gatorade Nevada boys' track and field athlete of the year last year.
