Four-star safety Jordan Young flipped his commitment from Clemson to Michigan's 2025 class on Sunday. The standout from Monroe High School in North Carolina originally pledged to the Tigers on Nov. 2. However, doubts lingered even at the time of his initial commitment, which made his flip less surprising.
Young’s decision is a huge blow to Clemson’s 2025 recruiting class, which witnessed multiple decommitments in the last few months. He joins a list of former Clemson pledges, including Tae Harris, Jaylan Beckley, Blake Hebert, Graceson Littleton, Isaiah Campbell and Bryce Davis.
The Tigers are now left without any defensive backs in their 2025 class and have dropped to 30th in the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings.
Meanwhile, Young’s flip is the latest example of Michigan’s aggressive use of NIL deals to secure top talent. In November, the Wolverines flipped Bryce Underwood, the nation’s No. 1 quarterback and a former LSU commit, for a rumored NIL deal ranging from $10-$13 million. Although the specific use of NIL in Young's flip has yet to be confirmed, fans slammed the Wolverines' use of those deals as it has turned college football into a pay-to-play system.
"College football becoming all about Money! Take away their scholarships and if they wanna go to school they can pay for it along with everything the school provides them with!" a fan wrote.
"They’re mad now, just wait until Michigan gets into the Transfer portal! 💰💰💰💰💰💰," one fan wrote.
"Since November 2nd huh? He was never committed , sorry not sorry. What are we doing?" another fan commented.
"Verbal commitments are worthless," one fan said.
However, Michigan fans are celebrating Young’s commitment. He is ranked as the nation’s No. 13 safety in the 2025 class by On3 Industry Rankings and he is also a playmaker on offense. As a wide receiver, Young has tallied 120 receptions for 2,587 yards and 29 touchdowns in his high school career.
"What a good weekend too be a Wolverine fan," one fan wrote.
Young's flip also comes after Michigan's 13-10 win against Ohio State on Saturday.
"I mean, after watching that game yesterday who wouldn’t want to flip to Michigan and play in that game," a fan said.
On3 ranks Young as the No. 6 recruit in Tennessee and the No. 172 overall prospect. He has recorded 33 tackles, six interceptions and a forced fumble in his senior season.
Jordan Young opens up about his commitment to Michigan
Jordan Young's commitment gives Michigan 20 commitments in its 2025 class, ranking No. 8 in the nation.
“What excites me most about Michigan is the opportunity to be part of such a legendary program and contribute to its legacy,” Young said on Sunday, via On3. “The coaches, the team culture, and the resources here are amazing, both athletically and academically.
Young also credited Michigan coach Sherrone Moore and his staff for their continuous push to land him.
"Coach Moore has done a great job," Young said on Sunday, via Rivals. "They have been calling me, texting me non-stop. They've been trying to make up for a late offer, and they've done a great job."
Michigan has a safety commit in its 2025 class in four-star prospect Kainoa Winston. Young is projected to be a nickel defender for Moore's program next season.
