Kiyan Anthony went to Tokyo for some shopping after his grueling summer which included tournaments, training, and media appearances. However, he quickly discovered that shopping without money can be painful, especially after his credit card was declined. This moment was shown on his Tokyo vlog on the Overtime YouTube channel.
Kiyan Anthony, a four-star shooting guard for Long Island Lutheran in New York and the son of NBA great Carmelo Anthony, was in Tokyo with his mom, actress La La Anthony, and several family members. He was trying out a bag that he liked when the cameraman reminded him that his credit card was recently declined.
"Nah it was," said Kiyan Anthony after the cameraman's reminder. "I told y'all, that NIL money, it's on the way. Coming soon y'all." (8:23-8:33)
As he was saying this, he took off the bag from his shoulder and looked crestfallen while sighing to himself.
Despite being reminded that he was still awaiting his NIL money, he was able to make some purchases and was already planning to go to two more stores.
"Y'all, we two stores down man, you feel me?" said Kiyan while redoing a scene for his vlog. "Two more to go, we going to another 2nd Street that's supposed to be better than this one. But we still got quality pieces, man. (9:45-9:57)
He was mostly just shopping for clothes in Tokyo and going around thrift stores. However, he did visit some shops that sold brand-new apparel.
Kiyan Anthony had to fetch mom La La to buy clothes for him after realizing he had no money
With Kiyan Anthony having some money troubles over in Tokyo, it turned out that the one buying him clothes was La La. This was exposed by his cousin, Mekai, who asked if La La was the one buying the clothes he picked out. The four-star recruit said he did not have his wallet on, making Mekai push further on how he was going to pay for all that clothing.
This prompted Kiyan to head out of the store in search of his mom, who was also shopping for clothes, but in another store.
"Mother, I need my passport," he told her. "And also, I don't have my wallet so I can just use yours and then just send you the money?? (14:37-14:46)
La La agreed, but soon after shopping, she called her son out for lying about his height after a tourist asked how tall he was. He told the tourist he was 6-5, but La La told him to "stop lying" and reminded Kiyan that he was 6-4.
