"Culture" and "family aspect" are the main reasons for top 2025 prospect Aniya Trent's commitment to Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech has secured the commitment of Aniya Trent, a four-star prospect from Springboro High School in Ohio. She received offers from other top schools, including Washington, Clemson and Penn State.

After she visited the other three schools, even donning their uniforms in photoshoots, she ultimately chose the Hokies. In an interview with On3 on Tuesday, Trent shared that the deciding factor was them having a "family feel and culture."

“At the end of the day, the ball stops bouncing, I want to go somewhere where I will be able to have a relationship outside of basketball, but also be able to have my fun when I’m there for four years," Trent said.
"It’s going to be definitely the culture, the family aspect side of it, and definitely just somewhere where I’m going to feel comfortable and have a lot of fun and win. Winning is a big part. I want to win."

Virginia Tech was not even in the running for her final choice. However, things changed when the new staff arrived, including new coach Megan Duffy, who Trent said made a solid impression on her.

“She moved from Kentucky to Virginia Tech – Jen Hoover – so she’s been recruiting me for a while. So I’m super comfortable with her. The new head coach called me. She FaceTimes me all the time, so that’s super nice."
"We’ve been building our relationship, but I just want to go down there and kind of see what it’s like. I’ve heard amazing things about Virginia Tech, so I want to see, and it’s a great program overall. I’m excited to go down there and see what it’s like, meet the players, get some info from them and see how it will be."

Aniya Trent will join other 4-star recruits at Virginia Tech

Aniya Trent is not the only four-star recruit who has committed to the Hokies for the class of 2025. Joining her are 6-foot-2 forward Amani Jenkins from Johnston High School in Iowa and 5-foot-10 point guard Kate Sears from Watauga High School in North Carolina.

Much like Trent, Jenkins would have gone to another school if it were not for coach Megan Duffy. Both forwards are expected to bolster the team's frontcourt while Kate Sears can play both guard positions and make shots from long range.
