The Dallas Cowboys face a pivotal decision as they search for a new coach following Mike McCarthy's departure after five seasons. The team is poised to attract significant interest with a talented roster that includes quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, edge rusher Micah Parsons and cornerback DaRon Bland.
However, under owner Jerry Jones, the Cowboys' search could extend beyond the NFL and college ranks to include Texas High School Football coaches.
Among the notable names is Jason Witten, coach at Argyle Liberty Christian. The former Cowboys tight end has compiled a remarkable 38-11 record over four seasons, including a stellar 27-1 record with two state championships in the past two years.
Witten’s deep connection to the Cowboys organization, where he played for 16 seasons, makes him an intriguing candidate despite his relative inexperience at the professional level.
Another associated figure is Randy Allen, the coach of Highland Park. Allen sports a record of 460-97-6, is the current most successful high school football coach in Texas consecutively and is only thirty wins from the record.
While Witten and Allen remain long shots for the coveted position, their inclusion in the conversation highlights Texas’s unique reverence for high school football.
Deion Sanders dismisses NFL coaching rumors amid Dallas Cowboys interest
It was reported on Monday that the Dallas Cowboys have spoken to Deion Sanders in the aftermath of their sacking of Mike McCarthy. Jones announced the news.
The decision raised eyebrows as the Cowboys had previously denied the Chicago Bears permission to interview McCarthy before ultimately letting him go.
NFL great Michael Irvin asked Sanders during an appearance on "Speak" if he would consider coaching the Cowboys.
"I love it where I am," Sanders said.
Sanders had previously said that his only motivation for coaching at the professional level would involve working with his sons.
“The only way I would consider it is to coach my sons,” he said during an appearance on Good Morning America 3.
Expressing his attachment to Colorado and the University of Colorado Buffaloes, Sanders said:
“Not son, sons. I love Colorado, I love my Buffaloes, I love everything we’re doing and we’re building and I love Boulder, Colorado. ... That's tough. I've coached them every bit of the way. Shilo went to South Carolina for a minute, but Shedeur, I've always been there, and every time he looked over there I was there. To know that we've been together from day one. It's tough to see it end.”
While Sanders has shown interest in the Las Vegas Raiders' coaching job, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the franchise plans to explore all possibilities before making a final decision.
