Basketball fans have praised Ja Morant’s dad, Tee Morant after he revealed that they worked on the Memphis Grizzlies star’s athleticism and dunking skills when he was still in high school.

Morant is known for his incredible dunks and athleticism, but his father has now said that the Grizzlies star was not always athletic and had to work on his athleticism. The senior Morant shared the secret to the guard's athleticism in a video that was posted by ESPN’s Instagram page on Friday.

“I was worried about his athleticism because he wasn’t dunking," Tee Morant said. "So after every drill, I had him jumping on it (a tractor tire). It was nothing for him to jump like 800-900 times a day on the tire. Then after that, the bounce got crazy."

Following the revelation, fans praised Morant’s dad while some also commended his son for the work that he put in.

“God bless his knees,” a fan said.
“How many 32 year olds about to go buy a tire and go back to juco, then do 4 years at d2 and go pro?" another fan wrote.
“Damn if I only had a pops like that, I was grabbing rim off vertical in the 9th or 10th grade,” an Instagram user said.

“Listening to the OGs, they know best 💯,” another fan said.
“Now that’s some GRIT Ja💪💪,” an Instagram user wrote.

Ja Morant's high school career

Ja Morant was not considered a five-star prospect in high school, but he has gone on to become one of the best players in the NBA today. The 6-foot-2 guard attended Crestwood High School in South Carolina, where he remains the school’s all-time top scorer with 1,679 points.

The point guard averaged 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists per game in his last two seasons at the school, winning South Carolina Class 3A All-State honors in both seasons.

Morant left high school in 2017 but was not ranked in the top 100 of the class of 2017. He only received one offer from a major college, South Carolina, but would later choose Murray State. It was at Murray State that Morant honed his skills, going on to earn first-team All-American honors in 2019.
