No. 8 small forward in the Class of 2025 Shon Abaev made his commitment to the Cincinnati Bearcats on Nov. 28. The consensus four-star prospect ranks at the 28th spot nationally and sixth in Flordia.
The 6-foot-7 small forward took to Instagram to post about his commitment and hoops fans posted their reactions in the comment box:
Some fans were not happy with Abaev's decision of choosing Cincinnati:
"Damnnnn noooo I wanted him to pick Oregon so bad that was his perfect fit or Arizona damn good pick up though," commented a fan who wanted to see Abaev play for Oregon or Arizona.
This fan thought that Shon Abaev chose Cincinnati for money, "Chose the money over coming to the best team in the country. What a waste of."
"Bad move would’ve played at Arkansas," commented a fan.
On the other hand, some fans congratulated Abaev on his commitment and commended his skills:
A fan commended head coach Wes Miller after securing Abaev's commitment, "Another Florida boy yall know where get them Killa’s at yessir damn good job coach."
This fan was excited to see Abaev and Keshaun Tillery together next season, "Him and @keyshuann gonna have a movie next year."
Another fan thought that Abaev has the skills to make it to the NBA, "This DUDE HAS GOTTEN NBA WRITTEN ALL OVER HIM."
According to 247Sports, Shon Abaev received 26 offers from top programs including Auburn, USC, Syracuse, Dayton, Georgia, Arizona State, SMU, LSU, and Mississippi State, among others.
How good is Shon Abaev?
Playing for the Fear of God Athletics in the Overtime Elite League, Abaev is averaging 30.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in his first four games. His recent stats for his high school Calvary Christian Academy are not available, however, in his freshman season, he averaged 18.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
He talked about choosing the Bearcats with On3, stating he wanted to make it to the NBA:
“I chose Cincy because I just felt like it was the best fit for to make my dream come true and make it to the NBA.”
Abaev became Wes Miller's second commitment after Keyshuan Tillery signed for the Bearcats on Sep. 20.
