Four-star defensive lineman Tomuhini Tupoi announced his commitment to Oregon's 2026 class. He attends Mater Dei High School in California, which also features the Ducks linebacker commit Nasir Wyatt (2025) and running back commit Jordon Davison (2025).
Tupoi’s decision to join Oregon comes on the heels of a visit to Eugene during the Ducks' thrilling 32-31 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes. Oregon's defense played a key role in the win by containing Ohio State's high-powered offense and limiting their rushing attack.
This performance undoubtedly made an impression on Tupoi, who had previously named Dan Lanning's program the leader in his recruitment.
The 6-foot-3, 320-pound junior was added to the MaxPreps National Player of the Year watch list on Oct. 4. He is expected to be a perfect fit in Lanning's defensive system, which features aggression and versatility.
Topui is ranked by On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 204 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 19 among defensive linemen in the 2026 class and the No. 22 recruit in California.
Tomuhini Topui opens up about his commitment to Oregon
Tomuhini Topui holds nearly 30 offers, and he also showed interest in the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins for a while, but Oregon is where he wants to be.
“The main reasons I committed to Oregon were the culture, the coaches, and the overall atmosphere,” Tupoi said (via On3). “The culture there is unbelievable and being up there so many times and seeing it improve with new faces and new things is huge … The whole city of Eugene came out and showed love.”
Oregon's recruiting momentum has been on a steady rise, and Topui’s commitment helped propel the Ducks’ 2026 Class from No. 4 to No. 1 in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He also credited Lanning in his recruitment, saying:
“Coach Lanning is doing something special up there in Eugene. It’s really family-oriented at Oregon… It is not too far from home, but at the same time, it is far enough where I can focus on myself."
Tomuhini Topui becomes Oregon’s sixth commitment in the 2026 Class and the third on the defensive line. He joins offensive lineman Kodi Greene, quarterback Jonas Williams, running back Tradarian Ball, outside linebacker Dutch Horisk and defensive lineman Tony Cumberland in the cycle.
