Dell McGee's Georgia State Panthers lands commitment of three-star prospect Kelan Butler to the class of 2025

Three-star prospect Kelan Butler from Jefferson High School in Georgia has announced his commitment to Georgia State for the 2025 recruiting class. According to his X bio, Butler plays as an offensive linebacker and defensive end.

Butler made his decision public on Sunday and shared the news on his X account with a post that read:

"Beyond Blessed #AGTG!! GO PANTHERS!! @DellMcGee @CoachDaxBishop @CoachJHawkins @CoachSherrerGSU @BenMoore247."

Leading up to his decision, Kelan Butler was heavily recruited by several schools, with Georgia Tech initially being favored to land him. On3's recruiting prediction machine gave the Yellow Jackets a 28.4% chance of securing his commitment. However, coach Dell McGee's Georgia State emerged winners.

Butler becomes the second Top 100 player from the state of Georgia to commit to Georgia State in this cycle. Panthers' 2025 class, which has 23 commitments, is ranked No. 66 nationally, per 247Sports.

The Panthers have been successful in recruiting talent from within Georgia, with Butler being the 13th prospect from the state to join their ranks.

He joins wide receiver D'ontae Fulton, offensive tackle Dennis Uzochukwu, edge rusher Chandler Covington, offensive tackle Pherleski Martin, interior offensive lineman Xavier Spikes, wide receiver Ahmed Souare, interior offensive lineman AJ Andrews, quarterback TJ Stanley, tight end Grant Hollier and wide receiver Akeondre Chaney.

In the 2024 season so far, Kelan Butler played three games, recording 17 tackles (eight solo tackles and nine assisted tackles), along with three tackles for losses and two sacks.

He earned 5A All-State Honors as a junior in 2023 after recording 65 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, one fumble caused and one fumble recovery.

Butler is ranked by recruiting channels as an edge rusher prospect. On3 ranks him as the No. 113 edge rusher in the 2025 class and the No. 126 prospect in Georgia, while 247 Sports places him as the No. 57 edge rusher in the class and the No. 87 prospect in Georgia.

Kelan Butler also received offers from Arkansas, USF, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky and West Virginia.
