"Don't be Cam be you! I believe in you": Auburn fans react to Cam Newton's comments on 5-star signee Deuce Knight

Deuce Knight pledged his allegiance to the Auburn Tigers on Oct. 2 and signed with them on Dec. 4. Hugh Freeze & Co. put a lot of effort behind the recruitment of the five-star quarterback which paid off. He is one of the Tigers' 25 signees from the Class of 2025, as per 247Sports.

Knight is rumored to inherit the No. 2 jersey at Auburn, which previously belonged to former NFL star quarterback, Cam Newton. The former Carolina Panthers quarterback did not hold back and claimed that Knight would have to earn the jersey by winning football games.

The five-star recruit from the Class of 2025 retweeted the video of Newton discussing the topic and simply captioned it with a 100 emoji, agreeing with Newton's assessment.

However, fans saw it differently and jumped on the post to express their thoughts. Many urged Knight to focus on his game and not think about Newton's comments.

"Cam was there ONE year, there's not a legacy lol GO BE YOU DEUCE! Don't be Cam be you! I believe in you," one fan said.

"A number doesn't define a person, the person defines the number. Go be great and never wear 2 even if he let's you," another fan wrote.

The five-star prospect received support from CFB fans and encouraged him to be great at his future program.

"Go Earn It Kid!!! He didn’t say never he just said not right now and that’s respectable. Be undeniable and ball out," one fan wrote.

"For you to take on the challenge says a lot about you dawg," another fan said.

"Can't wait to cheer you on, Deuce!" another fan commented.

Deuce Knight talked about Auburn Tigers after taking multiple visits to the program

Deuce Knight signed with the Auburn Tigers after flipping from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He chose the Hugh Freeze-led school over Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

He spoke about the program after visiting them multiple times throughout his recruitment process.

"Coach (Hugh) Freeze, he understands where I’m coming from," the five-star quarterback said, as per On3. "He understands the place where I grew up; how you have to try and go get everything you want because [we’re] from Mississippi. The opportunities that you get, you have to make the most out of everything ... We both understand where we grew up."

Deuce Knight is ranked No. 27 nationally and is the fifth-best quarterback in the Class of 2025, as per On3. He is also the second-best overall prospect from the state of Mississippi.
