AJ Dybantsa, the projected No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, celebrated the addition of 6-foot-7 sharpshooter Hamza Zahran to Utah Prep on Monday. Dybantsa shared a welcome poster on his Instagram story for Zahran, a highly touted forward who previously played for Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, VA, as a small forward.
The BYU signee also added a lively caption with the story:
"Don't sleep either."
Zahran’s move to Utah Prep was also officially announced by the program on Instagram. The Utah Prep post on Instagram on Monday welcomed the talented forward with the caption,
“Big welcome to sharpshooter Hamza Zahran, who has transferred to Utah Prep.”
Zahran, known for his shooting range, will now join a powerhouse team that already boasts Dybantsa, who committed to BYU in December, and Xavion Staton, the 7-foot-1 center who joined the Cougars earlier last November.
AJ Dybantsa had already cheered for the addition of Staton to Utah Prep, sharing the team's post about the center transferring for his senior year on his Instagram story on Monday.
The original post from Utah Prep had a bold caption:
“Let’s welcome the best big man in the country, @xavi__wavi_, who has transferred to Utah Prep for the remainder of his senior year!”
Staton, a consensus four-star recruit who played for Hurricane High School, Hurricane, UT, before transferring to Utah Prep, signed with BYU in November and will be Dybantsa’s teammate both in high school and college.
AJ Dybantsa impressed in his Hoophall West debut
AJ Dybantsa, the standout point guard from Utah Prep, dropped yet another stellar performance to justify his status as the No. 1 nationally ranked player in the 2025 class. Last Saturday, the Utah Prep team visited Phoenix, Arizona, for their Hoophall West debut against the Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy Eagles.
Dybantsa, completely destroying the opponent’s defense, scored 23 points and topped it off with 10 rebounds. His dominating gameplay helped Utah Prep secure a comfortable 80-63 win.
When Bleacher Report Hoops shared the highlights on its Instagram handle, fans flooded the comment section to shower their praise on the 17-year-old.
The pairing of Dybantsa, Staton and now Zahran at Utah Prep makes the team an even more formidable force heading into the 2024-2025 season. The Utah Prep Athletes are 14-4 this season and will be up against Dynamic Prep on Jan. 10, coached by former NBA All-Star Jermaine O'Neal and also featuring his son, Jermaine O'Neal Jr.
