The No. 1 team in Arizona right now, the Perry Pumas, has remained undefeated, and it is all thanks to No. 6 overall-ranked Koa Peat. The five-star power forward led the Pumas to an impressive 61-52 victory against the Sunnyslope Vikings on Friday. This was a rematch of the 2023 Arizona Open Division State Championship, which the Pumas also won.
Peat had a double-double performance against the familiar foes, 12 points and 14 rebounds, with five blocked shots. This dominating performance has gotten fans talking:
"drug test this man! Too good 😭," one man said in a comment.
"That first block was pure madness lmao," another person commented.
"Koa a scary sight on the court 😂," said another commenter.
As expected, there were also plenty of comparisons to current and past NBA players, such as Carlos Boozer and Paolo Banchero:
"Now we got paolo benchero variants lol," one commenter pointed out.
"Dude play like Carlos boozer if you know ball," one commenter claimed.
"Aaron Gordon 2.0 he’s nun like paolo imo," added another.
Deandre Harrison led the scoring for Perry with a double-double performance as well, 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Dominic Avalos added 16 points. Meanwhile, center Darius Wabbington had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Sunnyslope Vikings.
As for Peat, he is the son of former NFL star Todd Peat. He is the No. 1 player in Arizona for the Class of 2025. He is also the No. 3 ranked power forward in his class.
Peat led Perry to win the inaugural AIA Open Division state title in 2023, dropping 35 points in the final against Sunnyslope. He was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Arizona and won the gold medal with USA Basketball during the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup in Spain.
Peat deciding between five schools
Being a five-star, colleges all over the country have tried to recruit Peat. However, he narrowed down his list to five last November.
The 6-8 power forward's top five are Texas, Baylor, Houston, Arizona, and Arizona State. He had previously eliminated schools like North Carolina, Duke, Michigan, and Arkansas from contention.
On3's Recruitment Prediction Machine currently has Arizona as the favorite to get his commitment at 26.1%, with the closest being Arizona State at a 13.9% chance. Meanwhile, Texas has been ranked third at 11.9%, with both Houston and Baylor being tied and 4th and 5th at a 9.9% chance each.
