Even if Main Black Bears student manager Simon Allen did not pursue college basketball, he still put on a show before their game against the Duke Blue Devils on Nov. 5. Allen left the crowd in awe after he threw down a series of dunks, including some reverse and windmill slams, with the No. 1 prospect from the Class of 2024 Cooper Flagg sitting courtside.
Some of his dunks were posted by SportsCenter NEXT on Instagram and received some interesting reactions from Blue Devils fans:
Some fans wondered why Allen is not playing for Maine or any other college team:
"Get that man a jersey I refuse to believe that UMaine got 12 better hoopers than him!" a fan commented.
"From what we saw on Maine’s team, he should be on the team," another fan said.
"Get this man a scholarship, can’t teach athleticism," one fan wrote.
Other fans wanted to see Allen get a NIL deal and play for other teams:
"This should be a pregame tradition. And let my guy get that NIL too...," a fan wrote.
"It’s thousands of D2 schools that could use him," a fan said.
"This dude is gonna k**l in rec leagues," another fan commented.
Allen talked about his pregame performance with FOX22 and said that the crowd asked him to throw down some dunks:
"I usually shoot before a game, so I was just trying to get up some shots and I heard the crowd started going wild," Allen said on Friday. "After I made a couple, they started to call me over and they asked me to do some dunks, so I had to put on a show for them."
How good was Simon Allen in High School?
Allen played for Central High School in Corinth, Maine. After graduating in 2023, Simon did not receive scholarship offers from Division 1 colleges and decided to stay close to home.
In one of his games against Piscataquis, Allen broke the school record with 42 points, including 10 3-pointers and no free throws.
Simon Allen also scored 1,000 points in high school. Do you think the 6-foot-1 guard could have played for a D1 or D2 college?
