Dylan Raiola, the new quarterback for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, had a great high school career. He played his senior year at Buford High School in Georgia, which is highly regarded as one of the best high school football teams in the country.
He led his team to an 11-2 record while also going 4-1 in his region. In the 13 games that he played in, Raiola passed for 2,666 yards and 34 touchdowns for just one interception while completing 63.2% of his passes.
Raiola racked up 8,442 passing yards and 88 touchdowns with 11 interceptions throughout his three years in high school. He also completed 566 of his 881 pass attempts for a 28-9 win-loss record.
The 6-foot-2 athlete was ranked No. 21 nationally and was the third-best quarterback from the class of 2024, as per On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the second-best overall prospect from the state of Georgia.
Dylan Raiola named Nebraska Corhuskers' starter for next season
Dylan Raiola was named the Nebraska Cornhuskers starting quarterback on Thursday. The 2024 five-star signal-caller chose the program despite receiving a lot of interest from some of the best college programs in the country.
Dylan Raiola chose the Cornhuskers over other top schools such as Georgia, USC, Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Oregon, TCU and Ole Miss among others. He was once committed to the Georgia Bulldogs but flipped his commitment to join Nebraska in December last year.
In a tournament held during the offseason to decide the starting QB, the highly anticipated true freshman defeated both fellow true freshman Daniel Kaelin and incumbent starter Heinrich Haarberg. Raiola is now set to start the first game of the season as the second true freshman quarterback in Nebraska history, joining Adrian Martinez, who was selected to start the 2018 campaign.
Furthermore, he will become the third NU true freshman signal caller to start a game in history. The only other people who have done it were Martinez and Tommie Frazier.
In his unofficial debut for the Cornhuskers during Nebraska’s Red-White spring game in April, the quarterback passed for 239 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while completing 16 of his 22 pass attempts. He will now look to make his official start for Nebraska against UTEP on Sept. 1 during the season opener.
