Legendary college football coach and ESPN analyst Urban Meyer, who used to coach the Florida Gators and the Ohio State Buckeyes, has shared his opinions regarding the current recruiting scenario. He opened up on his "The Triple Option" podcast about how difficult it is "these days" to find linemen:

"It used to be that you can find linemen anywhere when you went out and recruited. Skill is hard to find, but then, all of a sudden, these specialty camps and all the focus on quarterback, receiver, running back, when we would go back and recruit, you'd fall over great receivers and great skilled athletes. You can't find linemen anymore.
"Every school in the country has offensive line issues, every one of them," he added. "And that was not the case years ago."

He then went on to explain what he looks for in a high school recruit, especially for linemen who he says must gain weight and be big.

"This is important too. When you ho recruit a high school receiver, usually you got one here. An offensive lineman, you're going to recruit guys that are probably going to gain 30 to 50 pounds, and how they handle it, can they gain weight? Will they get stronger? Will they become more mobile?
"Because, you know, the awkwardness of the sophomore or junior in high school when you're that big is real."

Meyer added that because of this awkwardness, he always watches if the offensive lineman also plays basketball. If the lineman does not, he said that a "red flag" goes up for him.

Urban Meyer names his best college player today

During that same podcast episode, Urban Meyer also talked about who he thinks is the best college football player in the country today. He told his "Triple Option" podcast co-hosts Mark Ingram and Rob Stone that he believes it is Colorado Buffaloes star, Travis Hunter.

Urban Meyer stated that if he was still an NFL coach, he would not hesitate to draft Hunter as the No. 1 pick. He then lauded the Buffaloes star, saying that Hunter studies the game and that he respects him.
