Kiyan Anthony has had a whirlwind summer, from his time in Paris watching the 2024 Olympics to participating in various youth leagues. He also had some "secret" training with NBA star Paul George in Augusta, Georgia, right before a game during this year's Peach Invitational. He blogged about it and the video is now available on the Overtime YouTube channel.
Kiyan is the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, and he grew up with a lot of NBA stars around him. However, he has been vocal about being a Paul George fan, so when the NBA star went to watch one of his games, the younger Anthony could not hide his excitement.
However, Kiyan Anthony and Team Melo blew a strong start to lose to the Georgia Stars, a team they had previously defeated by 15 points. The Stars defeated Team Melo 63-64.
"Ended up losing. Everybody knew we wasn't supposed to lose to them coz we neat them by 15," said Kiyan. "So yeah, that was a bad loss. So far, that was like one of the litest games I've been at." (13:17-13:35)
After the game, the car Kiyan was riding in had a flat tire, but a family helped them out.
Kiyan Anthony worked out with Paul George and AJ Dybantsa
While he was getting ready for his game against the Georgia Stars, Paul George dropped by and worked out with some up-and-coming basketball stars, including Kiyan Anthony and the No. 1 recruit from the class of 2025, AJ Dybantsa.
The younger Anthony noted that after appearing on George's podcast, they had talked about working out together.
"Yeah I'm glad to be here," said Kiyan. "It was just last week we was on a podcast talking about you know working out the opportunity presented himself. We seen he was out here got in contact with him and he said he would love to so we just got him in the gym." (3:23-3:39)
Kiyan did learn much from that training session, applying it to the game against the Georgia Stars.
"I started scoring second quarter and I have the same move that I was working on with PG," he said in the blog. "I did like the little jab step into the shot. I pointed at him after I made the shot and then he pointed back at me cuz we was just working on that." (8:30-8:46)
Kiyan Anthony impressed scouts and analysts during last week's USA Basketball junior minicamp. The 4-star recruit has down his options to three schools: Auburn, USC, and Syracuse, with the Orange the clear favorite to land his commitment.
