Bishop Gorman has had a dominant season in Nevada, capping it off with its fourth straight 5A-D1 Nevada State Championship against Arbor View, 69-7. It was a dominant win to get the State title, but fans from neighboring California were not impressed, especially as Bishop Gorman lost its rivalry game against Mater Dei months before.

Bishop Gorman vs. Mater Dei is one of high school football's most storied rivalries, though the Nevada-based team has been 0-4 in its face-offs with Mater Dei since 2017. It was a one-sided win for Mater Dei, 31-15.
With the Gaels winning the 5A-D1 Nevada State Championship, fans pointed out that they have not yet beaten Mater Dei and are just the strongest team in Nevada.
"Everyone is big and bad til Mater Dei walks in the building.." said one commenter.
"Play in the Trinity League against Mater Dei, St John Bosco, Orange Lutheran, Santa Margarita, J Serra, and Servite and see how they do," another commenter pointed out.
"Nope. Mater Dei beats up on them every time. That's what happens when you stay in state and play marshmallow teams you get to inflate your success. At least MD goes around and signs anyone at anytime, said another."
Most commenters pointed out that the Nevada school was a big fish in a small pond. Some said that the Californians don't hold up against their own state, like Duncanville, while others continued saying that the competition in Nevada is just not there.
"I see California in the chat…yall come to Texas and see how you fair against DeSoto or Duncanville…" another person commented.
"I know of 8 Florida schools that will dog walk Gorman," claimed one commenter.
"They have no competition in Nevada. Try playing the competition in california, texas and florida every year," said another.
Mater Dei holds a slight advantage in rivalry vs. Bishop Gorman
The latest matchup between Bishop Gorman and its rivals in California, Mater Dei. happened on September 6. The Monarchs extended the lead in their head-to-head matchups. Mater Dei has won five of its last seven games against the Gaels already.
The two top schools have met one another 15 times since 2000, producing several memorable matches, including their 2022 showdown, which Mater Dei won, 24-21.
