Four-star Syracuse commit Kiyan Anthony has been a fixture of his dad's podcast, "7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony," since it began. During an episode of the show, when he was still 16, Kiyan made a claim that riled his NBA legend dad up. The said episode was aired in January 2024.

Made Hoops asked Kiyan who would win one-on-one, him right now, or his dad, Carmelo Anthony, when he was 16. The Long Island Lutheran shooting guard said he would win.

"No. I'm frying him," said Kiyan Anthony. "He wasn't nice until he was 17." (0:31-0:35)

This got a reaction from Carmelo during the show as his co-host, Kid Mero, was laughing at the teen's claim. Mero also pointed out how calmly Kiyan said it, while Carmelo noticed the disrespect his son had been giving him during that interview. Meanwhile, Kid Mero just kept laughing and instigating his co-host.

"I'm f**king with it. I'm f**king with the fact that he believes that right, and like he exuded that confidence," said Carmelo. "Calm, like you know, usually at that age, they ask a question like it's like immediate." (1:12-1:29)
"This mean you been really thinking about this, so no, f**k out of here Ki," continued Carmelo. "Sorry, you know I'm speaking to my son. Don't want to curse at you but f**k out of here, you know what I'm saying? And also, he's got some s**t at 16." (1:36-1:53)

"7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony" was the same podcast in which Kiyan Anthony made his big Syracuse commitment announcement. He was not the only guest during that episode, as his mom, La La, was also there.

Carmelo Anthony says Kiyan Anthony grew up in a different environment compared to him

While Carmelo thinks his son, Kiyan Anthony, still could not beat him one-on-one, he admitted that Kiyan had better things growing up than he did.

"He got some s**t at 16 that I wasn't even fathoming of doing that at 16, like just the way that the game is going, the way he flow, the way that, you get what I'm saying?" he said. "Like it was just different time, so yeah, he's a bad m********ker when it comes to, like his IQ of the game, the way he see the floor, the way he just allowed a game to come to him at most of the time." (1:52-2:24)

Kiyan has not been shy about saying he wants to surpass his father at Syracuse, and he may get that chance. However, this is still a big challenge as Carmelo won the NCAA national title during his time there.
