Julian Lewis, a five-star quarterback and cornerstone recruit for Deion Sanders’ University of Colorado program, arrived in Boulder with purpose. Sharing a snowy view from his plane on Instagram with the caption and a bison emoji.
"Finally Home"
Hailing from Carrollton, Georgia, Lewis is no stranger to breaking records and setting standards. He became the first player in Carrollton High School history to win the Gatorade Georgia Football Player of the Year award, earning the honor twice—once in 2023 and again in 2024.
Additionally, he secured titles such as MaxPreps National Freshman and Sophomore Player of the Year and was a National Player of the Year finalist in 2023.
Julian Lewis initially committed to USC but flipped to Colorado and officially signed with the Buffaloes on December 4. His decision marks a pivotal moment for Sanders, who praised the young quarterback as an all-encompassing talent.
"He’s everything that we desire in a quarterback," Deion Sanders said of Lewis. "He’s smart, he could throw, make, every throw. He has pocket awareness, pocket presence. He is a darn leader, but most of all, he’s a winner. People forget that category when you look at the quarterback."
As a freshman, Lewis compiled an eye-popping stat line of 4,118 passing yards, 48 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, guiding Carrollton to a 14-1 record and a state championship appearance.
Kaidon Salter ready for QB competition with incoming freshman Julian Lewis
With highly-touted freshman quarterback Julian Lewis joining Colorado, Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter addressed speculation surrounding the team’s quarterback competition. Speaking to Dallas-based WFAA, Salter emphasized that earning the starting role would come down to performance, with no guarantees made.
"No promises. All competition, and I’m willing to come in and compete,” Salter said on Friday. You know JuJu. He’s a younger guy, of course. So they (Colorado) wanted somebody in the room that could mentor him and help him come into college and feel comfortable. And I felt like I was that guy that could do that."
Salter met Julian Lewis at the Elite 11 camp, where Salter served as a counselor.
“I met JuJu at the Elite 11. I was an Elite 11 counselor this year. So I’ve met JuJu before, and I just recently met him again. (He’s a) very, very cool dude, and he’s a playmaker, one of the best quarterbacks, one of the best quarterbacks in his class."
Salter began his collegiate career with Tennessee in 2021 before transferring to Liberty, where he played for three years. During his tenure, he recorded 5,887 passing yards, 56 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions, completing 412 of 702 passes. Salter also rushed for 2,013 yards and scored 21 rushing touchdowns.
