Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph's snub from the NFL Pro Bowl roster has sparked debates since the announcement on Thursday. Despite leading the NFL with nine interceptions, he was left off. One of the most prominent reactions came from five-star Michigan quarterback signee Bryce Underwood.
Underwood voiced his confusion on Instagram by simply posting a question mark with Joseph's stat.
Joseph ranks second in passes defensed among safeties. He has started every game at free safety and boasts the highest Pro Football Focus grades for both overall play and coverage among safeties. He has allowed only a 43.9% completion percentage on targets as the closest defender.
Joseph also responded to the discussion, saying (via Tim Twentyman of Lions' official website):
"I saw it and I was like, 'Wow, that's crazy. But I wasn't really too much worried about the Pro Bowl. I ain't trying to be the in the Pro Bowl. I'm trying to be in that Super Bowl."
Joseph topped all free safeties in fan voting, but he fell short in votes from players and coaches, which make up two-thirds of the final Pro Bowl decision. Instead, Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney earned the nod.
The Lions did have seven players selected for the Pro Bowl.
Future Michigan teammate raves about Bryce Underwood
Michigan landed the nation's No. 1 quarterback, Bryce Underwood. Many have showered praise on him.
Michigan's 2026 class commit Jaylen Pile also followed suit by heaping praise on his future teammate, saying (via Blitz Sports Media):
“I’ve talked to Bryce a couple of times and he’s the REAL DEAL. He’s a leader and he’s ready to go.”
Underwood has been practicing with the team as an early enrollee, which would allow him to integrate into Michigan's system and culture ahead of his official arrival next season.
After finishing the 2024 season with an 8-5 record, Michigan will look forward to seeing Underwood leading the offense next season with Mikey Keene as his key competition in the quarterback room.
