Four-star defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou decommitted from Florida's 2025 class on Monday morning. The decision came one day after returning from an official visit to then-No. 1 Texas' 40-15 loss against No. 5 Georgia last weekend.
Texas is now heavily in the mix for Mbatchou, and five-star Longhorns safety commit Jonah Williams took notice. He implored the former Florida commit in a post on X, writing:
"Come home !!!!!"
Florida was one of the first major programs to take a chance on Mbatchou. The 6-foot-4.5, 280-pound prospect had never played an official down of football when he pledged to the Gators in late July.
However, since then, Mbatchou has received offers from powerhouse programs like Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee. These scholarships and gameday visits to multiple programs led him to reopen his recruitment.
Losing Mbatchou is a major blow for Florida’s 2025 recruiting class, which is left with only 11 committed players. This cycle currently ranks No. 33 nationally and No. 15 in the Southeastern Conference with less than two months till National Signing Day.
Meanwhile, landing his commitment will be another major recruiting win for Texas' 2025 class. Steve Sarkisian's Longhorns boast 21 committed players this cycle, ranking No. 6 in the nation and No. 5 in the SEC. It has two committed defensive linemen: four-star prospects Myron Charles and Josiah Sharma.
Which programs are in the mix for Joseph Mbatchou following his decommitment?
Joseph Mbatchou has narrowed down his finalists for commitment. Despite his decommitment from Florida, Billy Napier's Gators have made the list, alongside Alabama, Texas, Auburn, Michigan, Tennessee and USC.
Mbatchou's upcoming visits include Michigan next weekend, followed by Auburn on Nov. 2, Florida on Nov. 16 and Tennessee on Nov. 23, before concluding his trip at USC on Nov. 30, according to Keith Niebuhr of On3. He plans to give equal consideration to all of his finalists before making a final decision.
"Just weigh everything," Mbatchou told Horns 247. "Weigh the good and bad and come to a final decision after everything is said and done."
Joseph Mbatchou is ranked by the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 379 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 33 defensive lineman in the 2025 class and the No. 49 recruit in Georgia.
