Five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham has maintained his commitment to Alabama since July 13, despite intense interest from rival programs. His status as a blue-chip prospect ensures that he will continue to attract attention, and the latest player attempting to sway him is new Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight, who flipped from Notre Dame to the Tigers last week.
However, Cunningham isn’t ready to flip from the Crimson Tide's 2025 class.
“That’s my guy & I respect him, but I’m still locked in with #Bama," Caleb Cunningham told Brett Greenberg of 247 Sports. "I think he made the right decision! But I’m still locked in with Bama!”
Cunningham, from Choctaw County High School in Ackerman, Mississippi, is ranked by ESPN as the nation's No. 19 overall prospect, the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2025 class and the No. 1 recruit in Mississippi. His impressive performance this season led to his selection for the 2024 Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game last week, which is an esteemed honor for high school athletes in the state.
Cunningham's recruitment will be crucial for Auburn as the school looks to enhance its 2025 class, which already boasts 26 committed players, including multiple blue-chip prospects.
Meanwhile, Knight’s recruitment efforts extend beyond Cunningham, as he has also reached out to Kentucky four-star cornerback commit Martels Carter to bolster Auburn’s 2025 class, which is ranked No. 4 nationally and No. 3 in the Southeastern Conference.
Can Auburn flip Caleb Cunningham from Alabama?
Despite pledging to Alabama, Caleb Cunningham revealed to "Inside the Rebels" that Auburn, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are still under his consideration. He has already made game-day visits to Alabama, Mississippi State and Auburn, while a trip to the Rebels is still on the way.
Auburn has made a strong push to stay in the mix, as before committing to Alabama, Cunningham showed huge interest in the school. His game-day visit to the Tigers was the Week 4 matchup against Arkansas on Sept. 21, which Hugh Freeze's program lost 24-14. However, Cunningham appreciated the efforts of the coaching staff to maintain their relationship.
Auburn's struggles on the field and concerns about the Tigers' quarterback situation influenced Cunningham's initial decision to commit to Alabama. The Crimson Tide, with five-star quarterback Keelon Russell, committed for the 2025 class, offers stability that Auburn has lacked.
However, Auburn has already secured quarterback Deuce Knight, who is expected to be a five-star prospect soon, giving them some hope of flipping Caleb Cunningham's commitment. A flip to Auburn isn’t on the horizon just yet, but the program expected to continue its efforts, especially since it has yet to land a wide receiver in this class.
