Jesse Harrold, a four-star edge rusher, announced his de-commitment from the LSU Tigers on Thursday, Nov. 28. Brian Kelly is having a difficult time hanging onto his star recruits as Harrold became the program's second U-turn in the span of a few days.
The nation's No. 1 prospect, Bryce Underwood, flipped his pledge from LSU to the Michigan Wolverines on Nov. 21, and Harrold has followed suit, posing a huge question for Kelly and his staff. The four-star defenseman had been committed to the Tigers since June 22, but is now looking elsewhere for his future.
LSU has already lost three commitments this month. Apart from Harrold and Underwood, four-star offensive lineman Devin Harper also flipped his decision from LSU to Ole Miss earlier this month. The Tigers' class is currently the sixth-best in the country, as per 247Sports, with 25 commitments.
The 6-foot-4 defenseman is ranked No. 144 nationally and is the 19th-best player at his position, as per On3. He is also the 23rd-best overall prospect from his home state of Florida. Harrold is sitting on offers from Florida State, Texas A&M, Illinois, Florida, Colorado, Auburn, Miami and Penn State.
Florida State is the favorite to land Jesse Harrold, as per On3
The four-star edge rusher from Gaither High School, Tampa, Florida, Jesse Harrold de-committed from the LSU Tigers on Thursday. He is now free to pick from other programs such as Auburn, Miami, Texas A&M and Illinois, among others. However, the one program that is in the lead to land the top defenseman is Florida State.
The Seminoles have a 96.8% chance of acquiring Harrold, as per On3. Florida State is set to host the 6-4 edge rusher this weekend as the program is scheduled to play against state rivals, the Florida Gators.
Jesse Harrold could become the Seminoles' 14th commitment from the Class of 2025. The school's class is currently ranked No. 38 in the country and will get a huge boost by signing a four-star prospect such as Harrold.
The Mike Norvell-led side has landed five four-star commits so far and is on an upward trajectory.
Harrold has been one of the Gaither Cowboys' best players this season. The four-star prospect has played 11 games for the Cowboys and has recorded 11.0 sacks while accumulating 32 total tackles. He is second, only behind senior Antonio Henley, to record double-digit sacks this season for his team.
