Kate Harpring, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2026 and daughter of the 1998-99 NBA All-Rookie team member Matt Harpring, is making waves in the girls' high school basketball circuit. The Marist School point guard surpassed a major milestone as she scored her 2000th point against Lithonia Bull Dogs on Jan. 7.
Harpring scored 32 points in the away conference game as Marist finished with a dominating 85-33 win. Famous basketball page 'Overtime Select' took to Instagram to share some highlights of the 5-foot-10 guard:
Kate Harpring was seen dominating the game as she converted some tough shots and worked on both ends of the floor. With one more year left before the Atlanta, GA native decides on her collegiate career, Harpring has received 11 offers from top programs. These include Geogia Tech, Alabama, LSU and Iowa, among others, according to 247Sports.
In her sophomore year last season, Harpring averaged 27.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.0 steals per contest while shooting 58%. While she achieved the 2000-point mark on Tuesday, she scored 1,000 career points in less than two full seasons for Marist.
In one of her best performances, Harpring scored 45 points in the semifinals of the Georgia 6A postseason tournament on Mar. 4, 2024.
Marist girls basketball coach Kimberly Hixon also commented on her 45-point game:
"We knew she had it in her. She's put us on her back before and she's done a really good job with it. We just didn't realize there was going to be a stage that big. To take over just shows you her maturity, obviously, athleticism, preparation," Hixon said.
