Alabama's 2025 class is one of the best in the nation, and four-star prospect Darrell Johnson is one of the stars in the cycle. The standout from Dodge County High School (Georgia) capped off his senior season with a slew of accolades, including being named the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class A Division I Defensive Player of the Year and earning First Team All-State honors.
On Monday, Johnson reposted a tweet listing his accolades on X with the caption:
"💯."
Accolades are something common for Johnson, who earned All-Region honors as a junior and was also named the Region 1-AA Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. He excels in pursuit defense by quickly closing gaps and using his length to track down ball carriers. His ability to flow between downhill and sideline-to-sideline play makes him a dynamic defensive asset.
Johnson committed to Alabama on March 20, but he had kept his options open by flirting with schools like Auburn, Florida State and UCF. However, he later stayed true to the Crimson Tide and completed signings on the Early Signing Period on Dec. 4.
Alabama's 2025 class is headlined by multiple five-star prospects, including quarterback Keelon Russell, offensive tackle Ty Haywood, interior offensive lineman Michael Carroll, cornerback Dijon Lee and offensive tackle Jackson Lloyd. Besides Darrell Johnson, the Crimson Tide have Luke Metz and Abduall Sanders in this cycle's linebacker room.
Darrell Johnson raves about his all-round talent
Darrell Johnson initially gained attention as a quarterback and running back during his sophomore season, but he later transitioned to defense as a junior while still occasionally proving his skills as a running back. In his senior season, he was primarily a defensive force and earned attention by thriving as an edge and hang defender.
“I love it when the ball is in my hands because it's just me," Johnson told On3. "I can do whatever I want to. I can play anywhere on the field. I'm not scared to tackle, and I have speed.”
Johnson is the No. 12 linebacker in the 2025 class, the No. 16 recruit in Georgia and the No. 132 prospect in the nation. Some recruiting analysts label him as an athlete due to his all-around talent, but Alabama's coaching staff recruited him specifically to play linebacker. He has the tools to succeed as either an inside or outside linebacker under Kalen DeBoer's guidance.
