Four-star cornerback Zyntreacs Otey, from Battle Ground Academy in Tennessee, committed to Purdue's 2026 recruiting class. Landing a promising prospect like Otey so early in this class is a big boost for the Boilermakers.
Otey made his commitment official with a post on X, tagging several Purdue coaches and recruiting analysts.
"1000% Committed @Coach_Walters @CoachCarterPur @BallHawkU @NCEC_Recruiting @samspiegs @adamgorney @DubJellison @TomDienhart1 @GregSmithRivals @strengthcoach34 @Kreager @FootballBga @Tpalmateer83 @Spotlight39_Pod @CWilson_1Shot @coachkriesky @Coach_Rayl @CoachWuellner."
Otey also added a statement in his post to declare that he would be shutting down his recruiting process.
"First off I want to thank God for putting me in this position that I'm in today. I would like to thank my family for making sacrifices to better my life and football career. Thank you to my coaches who push me in practice and in the weight room to be a better player. Also thank you to all the colleges who recruited me during this process. Now I'm shutting down my recruiting process and committing to Purdue University."
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound prospect reclassified as a junior to prepare himself for college. This will be his first year at Battle Ground Academy after transferring from Riverdale High School. During his sophomore season, he recorded 66 tackles, two interceptions and four passes defended.
Zyntreacs Otey is the second commitment of Purdue's 2026 class, which earlier earned commitment from three-star quarterback Oscar Rios from Downey, California. The Boilermakers are also trying to earn the commitment of Otey’s younger brother, Dre Otey, to their 2027 class.
Why did Zyntreacs Otey commit to Purdue?
Besides Purdue, Zyntreacs Otey received offers from Arkansas State, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Toledo, Marshall, Western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky. But he felt more connected to the Boilermakers following multiple visits to the program, including a trip at the end of July.
The relationship Otey developed with Purdue's cornerbacks coach, Sam Carter, and other coaching staff played a crucial role in his decision.
“I always loved Coach Carter, we have a great relationship," Otey told The Tennessean. "I love how he coaches players. I got to talk with Coach (Ryan) Walters and he was talking about how he’s going to set me up for life and not just through football. They can develop me as a man. That’s what did it.”
Last year, Purdue was heavily recruiting Otey's friend, Tarrion Grant. The program's coaching staff was also showing him love, even though Tarrion was its top priority. Otey also had high praise for the school's culture.
"The culture at Purdue is great, it’s built off trust and love," Otey told Rivals. "I think I fit great in the scheme they run and it’s going to help my game go to another level."
247Sports has Zyntreacs Otey ranked as the nation's No. 66 cornerback in the 2026 class and No. 20 prospect in Tennessee. He is also ranked as the nation's No. 38 cornerback in the class and No. 13 prospect in Tennessee by On3.
