Four-star running back Tyson Robinson is one of the rare sophomore prospects to attract huge attention early in his high school career. He already holds offers from many of the nation’s top programs and is set to visit Tennessee this weekend to check out Josh Heupel's program.
"I will be at Tennessee this weekend 🍊🍊🍊," Robinson posted on X.
Robinson has just finished his sophomore season and does not appear close to making a college commitment. Besides Tennessee, he also received attention from schools like Florida State, Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Florida, Oregon, Missouri, Penn State Oklahoma and Nebraska.
Meanwhile, Tennessee is also pursuing four-star running back Kaydin Jones from the 2026 class. This week, he included the Volunteers in his top five schools alongside Oklahoma, Kansas, Vanderbilt and Louisville.
Heupel's program has been actively recruiting the 2026 class prospects while keeping an eye on the future with the 2027 class.
As of now, Tennessee has yet to secure a commitment from the 2027 class, but it remains a contender for running back David Gabriel-Georges. Other notable running back targets in this cycle include Landen Williams-Callis, Ellis McGaskin, David Segarra, Jakeyveon Parker and Andrew Beard.
What potential may Tyson Robinson bring to Tennessee?
Tyson Robinson had an outstanding sophomore season in 2024 at Brandon High School in Mississippi. He gained 1,294 rushing yards on 173 attempts, averaging 7.5 yards per carry. He also had 607 receiving yards on 42 catches, totaled 2,008 all-purpose yards, and scored 34 touchdowns.
“Tyson is such a great kid and leader," Brandon coach Sam Williams told MSScore Board. "We have really managed his touches well this year to keep him fresh, but not it’s time to hunt.”
Robinson is the No. 71 prospect in the country, the No. 3 running back in the 2027 class, and Mississippi's No. 5 recruit, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
The Volunteers presently have less than a 1% chance of obtaining his pledge, but this weekend's visit could strengthen their standing in his recruitment.
