The Georgia Bulldogs are facing the potential loss of several key players following the 2024 season. Apart from those roster changes in the active squad, the school may also see a shakeup in its 2025 recruiting class as 4-star wide receiver Thomas Blackshear reopened his recruitment.

Blackshear made his silent commitment to Kirby Smart's program back in May. Within less than a year, he is now back in the market. He announced the update on X, writing:

"I am still committed to the university of Georgia I’m just opening up my recruitment! @RustyMansell_ @JeremyO_Johnson @247Sports @On3Recruits."

Blackshear has visited Georgia’s campus multiple times, including attending the 2023 season opener against UT-Martin and participating in a spring practice earlier this year. When he committed to the Bulldogs, he credited the school's coaching staff for their pitch.

“I am going into a great program and I get to stay close to home,” Blackshear said (via On3). “Georgia has a great coaching staff, they are a top program that gets players drafted and they win. After talking it over with my parents, I made the decision to commit to Georgia.”

Despite a late push from Tennessee, Blackshear became the first receiver commitment to Georgia in the 2025 class. The cycle later earned the commitments of three wide receivers: Talyn Taylor, Tyler Williams and Landon Roldan.

The Bulldogs' 2025 class has 21 committed players, ranking No. 4 in the nation and No. 3 in the Southeastern Conference. The class features some 5-star players like edge rusher Isaiah Gibson, tight end Elyiss Williams and linebacker Zayden Walker.

Thomas Blackshear's athletic profile

After being in Benedictine in Savannah for the 2022 season, Thomas Blackshear moved to Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia, ahead of his junior season.

He missed five games due to injury in his junior season, but he still finished with 590 receiving yards and five touchdowns, per MaxPreps. He also contributed on defense with two interceptions, two pass defenses and eight tackles (four solo and four assisted).

Throughout three games of the 2024 season, Blackshear recorded 528 yards and six touchdowns while also recording four tackles (one solo and three assisted).

Thomas Blackshear is ranked by On3 as the No. 162 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 22 wide receiver in the 2025 class, and the No. 22 recruit in Georgia. 247 Sports places him as the No. 22 wide receiver in the class and the No. 22 recruit in the state.
