McKay Madsen, a four-star linebacker from Clovis North High School announced his commitment to the BYU Cougars on Saturday. The linebacker chose the Cougars over other top programs such as Oregon, UCLA, Arizona State and Arizona.
The Cougars were not the favorites to land the talented defenseman, according to On3. The recruiting website gave them only a 1.3% chance of acquiring him while the Oregon Ducks were a 96.9% favorite to land Madsen's commitment.
Madsen's commitment garnered a lot of reactions from CFB fans as they poured in to share their thoughts in the comments section of an Instagram post shared by On3's reporter Hayes Fawcett.
BYU fans were understandably thrilled with the commitment of Madsen as they hyped up the program and their latest commit by comparing him to the current San Francisco 49ers' star LB and former BYU Cougar, Fred Warner.

Madsen recorded 49 total tackles and four interceptions this season while playing in 11 games. He ended his high school career with eight interceptions and 141 total tackles.

McKay Madsen sheds light on why he chose BYU Cougars
The BYU Cougars made a huge splash in the recruiting cycle on Saturday as they landed the four-star linebacker from Clovis, California. McKay Madsen chose the Cougars over Oregon and UCLA.
During his visits to multiple programs before his commitment, Madsen gave his insights on what he was looking for in his dream college.
"Family is everything, and faith is even more important," the linebacker told NBC. "I want to continue my education at a school who respects that and lets me live it every day."
BYU always had the things that Madsen was looking for and he spoke about them in an interview with On3.
"BYU just the religious aspect, they share my same beliefs and faith," the four-star linebacker said.
McKay Madsen is ranked No.341 nationally and is the 37th-best linebacker in the country, as per On3. He is also the 30th-best recruit from the state of California.
