With Georgia’s 2024 season concluding with a 23-10 loss to No. 7 Notre Dame on Jan. 2, Kirby Smart and his staff have shifted their focus to recruiting. One of their top priorities is four-star running back Savion Hiter, and running backs coach Josh Crawford is taking the lead in his recruitment.

Crawford made a visit to Hiter on Sunday, and the prospect shared a snap with the running back coach on X, writing:

"Appreciate @CoachJCrawford for making the trip #GoDawgs."

Hiter visited Georgia’s campus for the Bulldogs' 31-17 win over Tennessee on Nov. 16 and was impressed with the program's rich tradition of developing elite running backs.

“It’s just a school that’s built great running backs out there and I could be one of those too,” Hiter told On3. “They’re RBU. I really like Coach Smart. They have great academics too. People don’t notice that.”

Hiter has narrowed his list of schools to four: Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan and Ohio State. He plans to take additional unofficial visits to these schools in the spring to further assess his options.

Hiter has declared Michigan the leader in his commitment, but the competitive landscape of recruiting can change at any time. Even committed players can flip their decisions, so this recruitment is one to watch closely as it develops.

What would Savion Hiter's commitment mean to Georgia?

Savion Hiter is the No. 1 running back in the 2026 class and the No. 21 recruit in the nation. His potential commitment would give an instant boost to Georgia’s 2026 class, which ranks No. 6 in the Southeastern Conference with four committed players.

The 2024 Central VA Offensive Player of the Year has proved his athleticism at Louisa County High School in Virginia this season. He racked up nearly 1,900 all-purpose yards, including 1,698 rushing yards and scored 29 touchdowns.

Hiter also contributed on defense with 56 tackles, one interception, seven sacks, and four tackles for loss. Louisa coach Will Patrick has nothing but praise for him.

“I just tell them he’s a great young man," Patrick told 29 News. "Yes sir, no sir, does everything the right way. Very explosive young man with the ball in his hands, very coachable, willing to do whatever we ask."

If Savion Hiter chooses Georgia, it would be a rare but impactful addition for the Bulldogs, who last signed the No. 1 running back in the nation in 2018, when Zamir White committed.
