De’Lon Jackson, a 15-year-old offensive lineman with dreams of playing in the NFL, showed immense bravery on July 29 when he rushed to save his mother, Raven Winston, from a car crash. The incident took place near Charles Drew High School in metro Atlanta, where the Clayton County, Georgia, native had just wrapped up football practice.

Jackson’s mother was on her way to pick him up when she was involved in a collision. She called Jackson, as she was unable to breathe or move, and the sophomore high school player immediately sprinted onto the street to help his mom.

“I didn’t hear the accident, but I heard my mom saying, ‘I can’t breathe. I can’t move,’” Jackson told WDBJ7.

De’Lon Jackson managed to get his mother out of the vehicle and to safety. But he was hit by another car, with his left leg being so severely injured that it had to be amputated.

“He was laying in the middle of the street, his leg was hanging off and twisted in many ways,” Winston told ANF. “It was the worst day of my life.”

As of now, the Atlanta police have not released the full incident report. Multiple news outlets reached out to the police for its take on this incident, and it remains unclear whether the driver who struck Jackson will face any charges.

What is the update about Georgia high school football player De’Lon Jackson's leg being amputated?

De’Lon Jackson is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital, and Channel 2′s Tom Jones confirmed on Friday that his sixth surgery was unsuccessful. Doctors are fighting to save his left foot, with a seventh surgery scheduled for Monday.

“He’s Superman to everyone else but silently he cries,” Winston told WDBJ7. “He’s a 15-year-old teen boy whose entire life has changed.”

The accident has turned Jackson's world upside down, but his courage and love for his mother remain a source of strength. Despite the pain and uncertainty, he expressed deep gratitude for his mother's safety, saying:

“I love her to death. I don’t know what I’d do without her. I don’t know what I’d do," Jackson told 11Alive. "I’m glad she’s here. I’m glad I’m here.”

Jackson's mother, Raven Winston, shared that the high school player's recovery process is far from over:

"He’s going to be here another week and a half, and when he leaves here, he’s going to have to go to CHOA for rehabilitation.”

De’Lon Jackson's coach, Robinson, spoke of the team's admiration for its injured teammate and proudly announced that it would dedicate the season to him.

“He’s a real hero, I can’t tell you how big that was,” Robinson told WDBJ7. “That kid put himself in a dangerous position to take care of his mom.”

An online fundraiser has been launched to help cover Jackson's medical expenses and support his family. You can find the GoFundMe link here.
