While Gilbert Arenas gets a lot of credit in training his son, Alijah Arenas, his ex, Laura Govan, played a major role in raising him and his siblings after their contentious split. On Thursday, Govan reacted to a post regarding sons of NBA players dominating high school basketball on her Instagram stories. She noted that moms should get some credit too.
"The Milk!!! And the MOMS," Govan said on her Instagram stories.
The post featured her and Gilbert's son, Chatsworth shooting guard Alijah Arenas. There was also Cameron Boozer's son, Columbus power forward Cameron Boozer, LeBron James' son, Sierra Canyon shooting guard Bryce James, and Carmelo Anthony's son, Long Island Lutheran shooting guard Kiyan Anthony.
Historically, Laura Govan does not always see eye-to-eye with her ex, former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas. One of the reasons they have butted heads was over child support, with Arenas successfully getting the courts to lower the amount of money he should pay.
Govan also often feels that because she raised Alijah and his siblings, she should also get some credit for her children's successes. Aside from Alijah, his younger brother Aloni Arenas is a rising middle school star, while his younger sister Himley plays as a freshman for Notre Dame Sherman Oaks. The eldest, Izela, is a college freshman playing for the Louisville Cardinals.
Laura Govan celebrates daughter Hamiley doing well for Notre Dame High School
While a lot of the spotlight goes to Alijah Arenas, the other high school star in the family, Himley, has shown that she too could be a future star. Laura made sure to highlight Himley in an Instagram video on Saturday.
Govan noted that even though Himley was still a high school freshman, she already plays for her school, Notre Dame Sherman Oak's varsity team, adding that she is already averaging 25 points per game. She also noted that Himley has also been training hard and watching films for hours, showing her dedication to the sport.
Laura Govan has been very supportive of her kids on social media, especially as they are all showing that they could have bright futures in basketball. Govan even traveled to France to cheer for Izela as she made her college hoops debut with Louisville.
