As the mother of five-star shooting guard Alijah Arenas, Laura Govan knows a lot about what is going on with her son's basketball career. The former reality show star, who is known for sharing a lot about her children's basketball careers, took to her Instagram Stories and shared a post about Alijah probably getting one of the most coveted spots in high school basketball.
While it is not officially announced yet, Laura Govan hinted that Alijah just made the West team of the McDonald's All-American Game, one of the biggest honors in high school basketball. McDonald's previously revealed he was nominated earlier in January.
Alijah Arenas, son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, actually fits the criteria for a McDonald's All-American as he matches many of the requirements, including accomplishments on the hardwood, scholastic achievements, being an amateur and not paid to play basketball, being under 19 years of age, having no criminal record, and other considerations.
McDonald's All-Americans are selected by a committee composed of basketball experts from all over the country. Led by Director Terri Lynn Wootten and committee chair Joe Wootten, the committee would review a nominated player's "fundamental talents and athleticism" and vote on which players deserve to be on either the West or the East team.
Who are Alijah Arenas' possible opponents and teammates during the McDonald's All-American Game?
While Laura Govan did not reveal how she knew Alijah Arenas would be a McDonald's All-American, likely, other nominees and their families have already been informed that they have also been possibly given that honor.
Because he is from California and playing for a California team, Alijah was nominated for the West. His possible teammates include AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Koa Peat, Jermaine O'Neal Jr., Jalen Haralson, Tounde Yessoufou, Brayden Burries, Nikolas Khamenia, Kingston Flemings, Trey McKenney, Shelton Henderson, and more. However, only 12 players will be selected in the final list.
As for the possible opponents they will be playing against, the East nominees are headlined by the Boozer Twins, Cameron and Cayden Boozer, as well as fellow five-star Nate Ament, Caleb Wilson, and Darius Acuff Jr.
The McDonald's All-American game is scheduled for April 1, 2025. It will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
