During last summer's AAU season, Compton Magic's 3SSB squad was the team to beat, as it included five-stars Alijah Arenas and Koa Peat, as well as a four-star in JJ Mandaquit.
Reminiscing how his son did during last year's AAU season, Gilbert Arenas shared a highlight of Alijah in action, with some fire emojis in the caption.
Gilbert Arenas has said that he made sure that his eldest son, Alijah Arenas, went to a public school like Chatsworth so he would know how to carry a team and be pressured to score a lot. He even went on a debate against former NBA All-Star David West regarding the matter.
He did the opposite when choosing an AAU team though, as he went with Compton Magic, so Alijah could know how to work with other star players. Alijah thrived with the team, even though he was sharing the spotlight with Koa Peat and JJ Mandaquit.
The trio led Compton Magic to a 26-7 record that summer. But it was not enough, as the Adidas 3SSB championship went to the Utah Prospects that season after the team defeated the Indiana Elite, 61-51.
On3 finally updates Alijah Arenas' rankings after he reclassified to the Class of 2025
Meanwhile, Alijah Arenas is now a senior, which means he is now part of the Class of 2025, which makes his previous ranking as the No. 4 overall from the Class of 2026 not valid. However, as he moved up a year, the eldest of Gilbert Arenas' sons found his rank to be a bit lower than before he reclassified last year.
On3, which previously rated him as the No. 4 from the Class of 2026, demoted him to be a four-star prospect. In addition, he is not rated as highly anymore and is now ranked No. 17 overall as a senior, according to On3's Industry Ranking. He is also the No. 5 shooting guard and the No. 4 player from California.
AJ Dybantsa, who also reclassified from the Class of 2026 to the Class of 2025, did not go down in rank after reclassifying, remaining the No. 1 rank and pushing Cameron Boozer down to No. 2.
Still, colleges from all over the country are lining up for a chance to recruit Alijah Arenas, with UCLA and Arizona regarded as the two favorites so far.
