Five-star shooting guard Alijah Arenas exploded for 40 points in a game against Long Beach Poly on Saturday and received some love from his girlfriend, Jayden. She posted that Alijah would score 40 points "every single time."
Arenas reposted Jayden's story on Sunday and captioned it with two words:
"Hell ya."
Alijah Arenas has been close with his girlfriend, even taking her with his family during their trip to Paris last November. They not only visited the usual spots like the Eiffel Tower and the Palace of Versailles together but also watched his elder sister, Izela Arenas, make her college debut with Louisville.
As for Alijah, the five-star is busy making his preparations for college as he reclassified last month, skipping a grade and becoming part of the Class of 2025 from the Class of 2026 to speed up his recruitment process. His father, former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, declared last month that his son will be making official visits to several schools over the spring but did not provide further details.
So far, two schools are considered top contenders in recruiting him: UCLA and Arizona. UCLA has reportedly been aggressively trying to recruit the LA native and stepped up its recruitment when Gilbert announced his son's reclassification. Meanwhile, the other favorite is Arizona, Gilbert Arenas' alma mater, with there being a trend among NBA sons to go to where their fathers went.
Kiyan Anthony chose Carmelo Anthony's alma mater, Syracuse, while the Boozer twins, Cameron and Cayden, picked Duke, where their father, Carlos Boozer, played. Should he choose Arizona, Alijah may team up with Bryce James, who committed to the Wildcats on Wednesday.
Alijah Arenas' 40 points not enough to lift Chatsworth vs. Long Beach Poly
Although Alijah Arenas scored 40 points, the Chatsworth Chancellors lost the game, with Long Beach Poly escaping with a 61-60 victory.
While Alijah Arenas carried the Chancellors to within one point, it was Long Beach Poly's four-star Cal signee, Jovani Ruff, who carried his team. He scored 26 points to lead his school to victory, including two clutch free throws with 7.9 seconds left in the clock.
Chatsworth tried to close in, with the five-star shooting guard sinking a three-pointer to make it 61-60. However, it was too late as Long Beach Poly held on for the victory.
