The Clemson Tigers lost the commitment of four-star quarterback Blake Hebert this week, as the signal-caller flipped to Notre Dame. It is a big recruitment win for the Irish, especially following the blow of losing four-star quarterback Deuce Knight's commitment to Auburn.

Hebert's decommitment leaves Clemson without a quarterback in the 2025 class. This loss has been felt particularly hard by fellow Clemson commit and four-star running back Gideon Davidson. On Wednesday, Davidson shared a heartfelt message on X alongside a photo of him and Hebert, writing:

Hebert reciprocated the sentiment by retweeting Davidson's post with the caption:

Hebert, originally from Canada, began his high school career at Central Catholic in Massachusetts before transferring to Brunswick High School in Connecticut for his senior season.

Blake Hebert is ranked by ESPN as the nation's No. 6 quarterback in the 2025 class and the No. 2 recruit in Connecticut. Rivals places him as the No. 17 quarterback in the 2025 class and the No. 3 recruit in the state.

Blake Hebert's last season came to a heartbreaking halt after he broke a bone in his leg and limited his playtime to just over two quarters. But he has bounced back this season by throwing for 900 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions, while also adding 234 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.

The loss of Hebert's flip to Auburn is significant for Clemson, which has high expectations for its sole quarterback in the 2025 class. However, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has adopted a pragmatic approach to recruiting.

When discussing the nature of modern recruitment and the emotional impact of losing players, Swinney said that he never gets "emotional" about decommitments. He mentioned a key perspective, saying (via Chapel Fowler of The State Newspaper):

"Sometimes the guys we get because of guys we don't get are the best things that've ever happened to us."

Blake Hebert had been committed to Clemson since last year, and his departure leaves the Tigers' 2025 class with 13 total commitments, ranking No. 15 nationally. The cycle has multiple four-star prospects, including edge rusher Ari Watford, safety Tae Harris, cornerback Graceson Littleton and defensive lineman Amare Adams.
