Four-star safety Tae Harris flipped his commitment from the Clemson Tigers to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday. Harris became the latest addition to Georgia Tech’s ambitious 2025 recruiting class, ranked No. 18 nationally by ESPN.

The move caught the attention of fans on the internet, with many critical of Harris’ transition from a storied program like Clemson to Georgia Tech.

“Have fun going negative every year bud,” one fan wrote on Instagram.
“Georgia to Clemson to Georgia Tech is the worst transition ever,” another fan commented.

However, some fans described the move as a win for Georgia Tech.

“Good for Georgia Tech, man winning some games and taking recruits from Clemson now. Not bad.”

Who is Georgia Tech's new commit Tae Harris?

Tae Harris is a 5-ft-11, 185-pound prospect and one of the top safeties in the 2025 class. The No. 3 safety (per On3 Industry Ranking) played high school football for Cedartown High School in Cedartown, Georgia. He confirmed his commitment to Georgia Tech days after witnessing the Yellow Jackets narrowly beat North Carolina State 30-29.

Harris initially committed to the Georgia Bulldogs in June 2023. However, he pulled his commitment in January, flipping to Clemson in March. He headlined Clemson's 2025 class until his flip over the weekend.

Harris joins other in-state talents Christian Garrett and Dalen Penson in Georgia Tech's 2025 recruiting class. The Yellow Jackets are 7-4 overall, earning their second straight Bowl eligibility ahead of their regular-season finale against Georgia in Week 14.

The Yellow Jackets have pursued Tae Harris for a while despite his previous commitments. According to Harris, the contact goes back to his sophomore season.

“They've been on me pretty heavy since the end of my sophomore year and the beginning of my junior year. I took a few visits down there,” he was quoted as saying by Sports Illustrated.

He added that Georgia Tech defensive backs coach Cory Peoples was also instrumental, forging a great relationship with him.

“Coach Peoples is my guy. We've just been keeping that same relationship and the word or message has never changed from the defensive coordinator coach Santucci. They've always told me they think I am the best safety in the country.”

With the early signing period now days away, the Yellow Jackets may have a few more aces up their sleeves.
