Montverde Academy's undefeated national championship run last year had everybody talking, including Chicago Bulls star Lonzo Ball. He was part of the legendary Chino Hills team, and he weighed in on whether his team had the better run during an appearance on Gilbert Arenas' "Gil's Arena" show.
In a bold claim, Lonzo Boll stated that the 2016 Chino Hills Huskies team could defeat the 2023-2024 Montverde Academy Eagles team, led by Cooper Flagg. This claim has many fans agreeing with the 2017 No. 2 NBA draft pick.
"He ain’t lyin 🤷🏾♂️," one commenter said.
"A public school dominating on that level is WAY more impressive than any stacked prep school squad. Chino literally popped up outta nowhere and dominated," claimed another commenter.
"I believe it tbh. Lotta people don’t remember but Lonzo was that guy in HS. Dude did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted on the court😂," commented another person.
However, there were also those who questioned Ball's claims. Some believe he and Chino Hills could not beat that undefeated Montverde squad, while others noted that Chino Hills did not face tough competition as Montverde had.
"2020 montverde? no way lmao i’m not even sure if they beat 2023-2024 montverde either," one person noted.
"Chino Hills was a public school. Those were all kids from the same neighborhood," pointed out another person.
"Is anyone stopping LeBron James in high school? I don’t think so lol. Y’all are too little," commented another.
Lonzo Ball led the Huskies to a 35-0 record in high school and even won the 2016 CIF boys basketball state Division 1 championship in California as a public school.
In his senior year, he averaged a triple-double with 23.9 points, 11.3 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game and was a five-star recruit, ranked No. 4 overall by both ESPN and Rivals.
Chicago Bulls may be looking to trade Lonzo Ball, says report
Meanwhile, Lonzo Ball, the NBA player may not be staying with the Chicago Bulls for too long. Trade rumors are in the air as the franchise seeks to continue its rebuild ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
While most of the team-related trade rumors center around All-Star talents like Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic, there is also word that the Bulls also want to trade Lonzo.
Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun Times noted that Ball might get traded because of his expiring contract and the team might be looking to swap his expiring contract for a few second-round draft picks.
