LeBron James is one of the greatest high school athletes in history, and this was reflected in the fact that he was drafted No. 1 by the Cleveland Cavaliers out of high school in 2003. He won four NBA championships, four MVPs and three Olympic gold medals. In celebration of his 40th birthday on Monday, MaxPreps released his game-by-game high school stats.

The stats showed how skilled LeBron James had been since high school, averaging over 18.0 points per game as a freshman, and only went higher from there. Fans started talking about high school LeBron. Some were pointing out that he played football back then as well.

"We not gone talk about how he was also getting first team all region in football," one commenter pointed out.

LeBron James was an All-Ohio Division III first-team and state tournament MVP in his freshman year. He was also named Ohio's Mr. Basketball during his senior year. Notable, he only lost six times in high school.

What were LeBron James' high school averages?

During his freshman year, LeBron James averaged 18.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 3.1 steals, and one block per game. He improved as he got older, averaging 25.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.7 steals and 1.6 blocks in his sophomore year. That same year, he was also named an All-Ohio Division IV first-team wide receiver in football.

In his junior year, James averaged 28.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.7 blocks, and was also named All-Ohio Division IV first team wide receiver in football.

As a senior, he averaged 30.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 2.9 steals, 1.9 blocks and was named McDonald's All-American, even winning the McDonald's All-American MVP honors.
