Before Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow became a professional football player, he was a high school basketball star who had first-team all-state honors. Sports Center Next took a look back at his high school basketball career and posted a highlight reel of the quarterback from his high school days.

In high school, student-athletes often delve into multiple sports, with Burrow being one of them, playing both basketball and football. While he was good at both, he eventually chose football, and the rest is history. However, this fun fact about him got fans talking, and they commented on ESPN's Instagram reel.

"Joe Buckets," said one fan.
"Looking like “Havlicek stole the ball” 😂," added another.
"He definitely played on balance: one commenter pointed out.

Meanwhile, some noticed that Joe Burrow was a bit awkward with his plays, while some stated that it was weird seeing the quarterback play in another sport and be quite good at it.

"It feels weird seeing him play basketball ngl 😂", one fan commented.
"His shot looks smooth but he is handling it like Stanley from the office lmao," another one noted.
"Man’s only dribbles with his right," noticed another commenter.

While the video highlights have shown Burrow was an effective shooter, most of the criticisms came from his ball-handling skills.

He was a four-star recruit in high school, the 8th-highest-ranked dual-threat quarterback from the Class of 2015, according to 247Sports Composite.

Joe Burrow says basketball-playing grandmother was the best athlete in the family

Basketball and football were in Joe Burrow's family, with his paternal grandfather playing basketball for Mississippi State. Meanwhile, his uncle, John Burrow, played football at Ole Miss.

However, as far as Joe Burrow is concerned, the best athlete in the family was his grandmother, Dot Ford Burrow, who was a Mississippi basketball legend.

Dot Ford is part of the National High School Hall of Fame's Class of 2024 and the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback was all praises for her.

"My grandmother was an incredible athlete and a generational basketball player," Burrow told Mississippi Today. "And is arguably the best athlete in the family. Knowing how great she was has motivated me to be the best I could be in all sports."

During the 1949-1950 season, Dot Ford made headlines when she scored 82 points in a high school basketball game. She averaged 50 points per game for that entire season, scoring 50 points or more in 12 games, and is considered a basketball hero in Hill County, Mississippi.
