Carmelo Anthony has been supportive of his son, Kiyan Anthony, especially as the high school basketball star went through a busy summer. Kiyan spent a lot of time with his dad, including the Paris Olympics and the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in Augusta, Georgia, where Carmelo rented a luxurious Airbnb for them to stay in.
Carmelo was present during the games in Georgia, including the matchup between Team Melo and its DMV rivals, Team Durant.
It was a heated affair as tempers flared during the close game. However, Kiyan was ultimately able to lead Team Melo to a 72-66 overtime victory. Overtime's YouTube channel posted a video of the game's highlights on Saturday, including clips from Kiyan's vlog.
After his son starred for his team and won the game, Carmelo Anthony showered him with praise.
"He was a leader, man," Carmelo said. "He led today. He scored the ball, he was very aggressive. They were being physical with him. They was testing him out to see if he could take the physicality. He succeeded."
Before their trip to Paris, Kiyan Anthony was also part of the gold medal-winning USA Basketball squad in Turkey for the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup. Several standouts played alongside him, including the two highest-ranked prospects of his class, AJ Dybantsa and Cameron Boozer. Kiyan is ranked No. 34 overall by On3.
Carmelo Anthony leaving college decision to Kiyan
Despite being a Syracuse legend and having a gym there named after him, Carmelo Anthony is not pushing his son to commit to his alma mater.
He led Syracuse to the NCAA title and was named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player in 2003. Carmelo also took Kiyan to the school when he was younger. However, Kiyan was the one who revealed that his dad wanted him to decide on his own.
Kiyan Anthony is now down to his final three schools. In addition to Syracuse, USC and Auburn are also in the mix, and he has already visited all three schools.
