Fans have praised the performance of Gilbert Arenas’ son Alijah Arenas in Chatswood’s clash against West Albany Basketball at the Capitol City Classic. Arenas put on a great show in the match, dropping 37 points even though it was not enough to prevent Chatswood from a 70-60 defeat.
But despite the loss, fans were impressed by his highlight reel which was posted on Home Team Hoops Instagram page.
“Convinced he’s barely trying lol,” a fan said.
“Dominates at a slow pace.. kind of Paul George ish," another one said.
“He plays just like his pops .... Just taller wit a lil deeper bag,” a user said he is similar to his father.
“It looks like he ain’t even trying😂😂😂,” another user said.
“He need just gone head go to college shit look way to easy,” another fan said.
As for the game itself, West Alabany pulled off a brilliant upset, thanks to Owen Hopkins, who dropped 24 points, hitting five 3-pointers. Gavin Aguilar and Grey Neiman also contributed 13 points each in the win.
Meanwhile, Arenas and Chatsworth will aim to bounce back from this loss when they return to action at the Damien Classic in La Verne, California next week.
Alijah Arenas is yet to commit after reclassification
Arenas is currently one of the top players in high school basketball, but question marks remain on where he would play college ball as he has yet to commit. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard was initially class of 2026 but he reclassified to the 2025 class.
Following his reclassification, Arenas bumped up in the rankings, with ESPN ranking him as the No. 15 overall prospect in their latest list.
Arenas has received offers from Washington State, UTEP, Fresno State, Arizona and UCLA, who is currently leading the race as per On3.
The Chatsworth, California native is not letting that affect his game, though, as he has started the season on fire. Arenas is currently averaging 26.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game across four games so far, according to Max Preps.
However, it is still below the 33.0 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game he averaged in the 2023/2024 season.
