It is no secret that former reality show star Laura Govan, mother of Alijah Arenas, does not get along well with her ex, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas. Back in June, TMZ caught up with her and discussed Alijah. During the conversation, she praised her son while simultaneously criticizing her ex.

The TMZ reporter highlighted Alijah's impressive accomplishments, which prompted the former high school basketball star to begin praising her son.

"He's a great kid, right? Like he's a scholar athlete. I'm about to cry. Anyway, he's just a great kid, he's sweet, he gives, I've seen him tell me to stop in the middle of the street and take off his shoes and give them to a homeless person, that's just who he is in his heart," Laura Govan told TMZ.

The TMZ reporter then brought up his father, Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA All-Star, and asked Laura Govan if she thinks Alijah would have a better career than him.

"Well I think right now, where he is, I don't like to count my money unless it's in my pocket. I don't like, you know what I mean, and I say that just hypothetically on everything, I think with Alijah, he's already as talented as his dad was at his age, so yeah, I think he's on the brink of surpassing everything that his father has ever done," she answered. Since their split in 2014, Laura Govan and Gilbert Arenas have been battling it out in court over child support, with Govan taking on most of the responsibility for their four children. She has been very open about her struggles in raising Alijah and his siblings.

The TMZ reporter also inquired about Alijah Arenas' college plans, asking whether he would be attending Arizona, where his father went. It's worth noting that this interview took place before Gilbert announced his son would be reclassifying to 2025.

"No, here's what the conclusion is, the conclusion is wherever is best suited and fit for him, no matter the coach, no matter the school. This isn't the Gilbert Arena story, this is the Alijah Arenas story," Govan said.

After announcing his son's reclassification to the Class of 2025, Gilbert Arenas revealed that Alijah would be going on several official visits sometime in the spring, without providing further details.
