Five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood officially submitted his letter of intent to join the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday. It marks a major win for first-year coach Sherrone Moore, who successfully flipped the Michigan native and No. 1 QB in the 2025 class from his commitment to the LSU Tigers just two weeks prior.
Moore seemed head over heels while revealing his conversations with Underwood, saying (via 247Sports):
"First question he asked me, he's like, 'Coach, how late is the door open? How late can I be in the building?' As late as you want, buddy. So excited to get him here and get to work."
Underwood arrives in Ann Arbor with a prolific high school resume, as he holds Michigan high school records for career touchdowns (179) and passing touchdowns (152). He can make throws from the pocket, on the run and at every level of the field. However, what excites Moore the most is not just Underwood’s talent but also his humility and willingness to improve.
"The kid is very humble," Moore said. "Like, the kid wants to be good. And the kid knows it takes work to be good. It's not just going to happen. So, he wants to be pushed, and he will be."
Michigan secured a signature win over Ohio State with a 13-10 victory on Nov. 30, but the program's quarterback play has been inconsistent throughout the year. Despite this, the Wolverines managed seven wins and earned a berth against No. 11 Alabama in the Dec. 31 bowl game.
After closing the current season, Moore's attention will shift to Bryce Underwood, as he will eventually be Michigan's starting QB next season. The challenge will be to replicate his high school success at the college level. Given the Wolverines' effort to flip him from LSU, including a big NIL offer, expectations will be quite high.
Bryce Underwood earns Gatorade Player of the Year
Bryce Underwood has been named the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year for the second consecutive season for his magnificent performance at Belleville High School in Michigan. It is the highest honor in high school sports, which recognizes athletes for excelling athletically while showing academic achievement and giving back to their communities.
During his senior season, Underwood threw for 2,321 yards and 30 touchdowns while limiting himself to just five interceptions. He has also rushed for 582 yards and 10 touchdowns, leading Belleville to a 10-2 record.
Bryce Underwood joins other recent two-time Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year winners: Quarterback Dante Moore, linebacker Josh Burnham and running back Donovan Edwards.
